Chanel No5, a timeless fragrance
Since the publication in 1921 of No.5 perfume is impossible to imagine perfumery without it. But why the perfume is wearing that name? The story going around is that the famous Coco Chanels perfume mixer Ernest Beaux asked for six perfumes for her creation between them she would then choose her favorite. This perfume she would add to its range. There were six perfumes named from No.1 to No.6. As the name implies, Coco Chanel preferred perfume in bottle number 5. Incidentally, it was number five is also the lucky number of the Frenchwoman.
Coco Chanel had thought that this perfume should be the most expensive perfume ever. Because the most expensive jasmine oil which was used to prepare it. Outside the most expensive perfume Chanel also had the ambition to have the cheapest perfume on the market. It was Jean Patous perfume – Joy. About it, Coco Chanel said that women who wore Joy thus show how their life was worthless.
In 1921, she dropped the first perfume to friends. At first, the perfume Chanel decided to go for free to clients who came to buy her store. Furthermore, they squirted perfume into the changing rooms to give it a pleasant smell.
In 1924 it became a true perfume company. Coco Chanel was helped by Pierre Wertheimer. Chanel agreed to a small share provided they had sole control over the product itself. This was done and to this day the perfume company is in the hands of the Wertheimer family.
As Coco Chanel wanted this perfume was a completely manufactured. Not just a natural scent, but a composition of odors. No.5 was therefore known as the first fragrance that is heavily dependent on synthetic fragrances. Chanel believed that it should not be a natural perfume but a natural beauty of the wearer which should emphasize. Therefore, the perfume was big success.
No.5 is available in different forms, pure perfume, eau de toilette and eau de cologne. Eau de cologne is removed from the series and instead has come eau de parfum.
